👩🍳 Instructions:
1. Make the dough:
- In a bowl, combine flour, ground nuts, powdered sugar, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter with your fingers or pastry cutter until crumbly.
- Add vanilla and sour cream if using. Knead until a soft dough forms.
- Wrap and chill for at least 30–60 minutes (or overnight for best flavor).
2. Shape and bake:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheet with parchment.
- Pinch off walnut-sized pieces of dough and roll into crescent shapes.
- Place on tray with slight space between.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes or until just starting to turn golden on the bottom.
3. Coat in “snow”:
- While still warm, gently roll each cookie in powdered sugar (mixed with vanilla sugar if you like).
- Cool completely and roll once more if you want that snowy look.
💡 Tips:
- Nuts: Walnuts are classic in Hungary, but almonds or hazelnuts also work.
- Shape: Traditional crescents are rustic — no need for perfection.
- Storing: Keeps in a tin for 1–2 weeks and actually improves with time!

❄️🇭🇺 Hókifli – Hungarian Snow Crescents
These tender walnut crescents are wrapped in sweet powdered sugar like little snowflakes — a cookie straight from grandma’s Christmas tin. So simple, so nostalgic, and SO good with a cup of tea.
