Ingredients:
- 3 cups (375g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon dry yeast
- 1 cup (250ml) warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil
Step 1: Preparing the Dough
- Activate the Yeast:
- In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5–10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy. This indicates the yeast is active.
- Mix the Dry Ingredients:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a small well in the center.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
- Add the frothy yeast mixture and the oil to the flour. Using your hands or a spatula, mix until the dough comes together.
- Knead the Dough:
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8–10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, sprinkle a little flour as needed.
- Let the Dough Rise:
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Allow it to rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours or until it doubles in size.
Step 2: Shaping the Flatbreads
- Divide the Dough:
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release any air bubbles. Divide it into equal portions (about 8–10 balls) and roll them into smooth, round shapes.
- Flatten the Dough Balls:
- On a lightly floured surface, use your hands or a rolling pin to flatten each ball into a disc about ¼-inch thick. The size of the flatbreads can vary depending on your preference.
