Making cheese at home is surprisingly easy and fun! With just milk and vinegar, you can create a delicious homemade cheese that’s perfect for snacking or cooking. Here’s a simple recipe to try:
Ingredients:
- 1 liter (4 cups) whole milk (preferably full-fat for the best texture and flavor)
- 2-3 tablespoons white vinegar or lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (optional, for flavor)
Instructions:
1. Heat the Milk:
- Pour the milk into a heavy-bottomed pot.
- Heat it over medium heat, stirring occasionally to prevent it from scorching, until it reaches about 80°C to 90°C (176°F to 194°F). If you don’t have a thermometer, heat it until it starts to steam and tiny bubbles form around the edges (just before boiling).
2. Add the Vinegar:
- Remove the pot from the heat.
- Stir in the vinegar (or lemon juice), 1 tablespoon at a time, and gently mix. You’ll notice the milk curdling almost immediately, forming small white curds and separating from the yellowish liquid (whey). If it doesn’t curdle fully, add a little more vinegar.
