🇭🇺 Hungarian Tarts – Traditional Jam-Filled Pastries 🥧✨

Hungarian Tarts are buttery, flaky, and filled with fruit jam, making them a beloved traditional treat. These delicate pastries are easy to make and perfect for tea time, holidays, or any time you crave a sweet, nostalgic bite!


🛒 Ingredients (Makes ~24 Tarts)

🧈 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
🍚 ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
🥚 2 egg yolks
🌿 1 tsp vanilla extract
🌾 2 ½ cups (315g) all-purpose flour
🧂 ¼ tsp salt
🍋 Zest of 1 lemon (optional, for extra flavor)
🍓 ½ cup fruit jam (apricot, raspberry, or plum work best!)
🍚 Powdered sugar, for dusting


📝 Instructions

Step 1: Make the Dough

1️⃣ In a bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
2️⃣ Mix in the egg yolks and vanilla extract until well combined.
3️⃣ Gradually add flour, salt, and lemon zest, mixing until a soft dough forms.
4️⃣ Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes.


Step 2: Shape & Fill the Tarts

1️⃣ Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2️⃣ Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to ¼-inch (0.5 cm) thickness.
3️⃣ Cut out rounds using a 2-inch cookie cutter.
4️⃣ Place half of the rounds on the baking sheet.
5️⃣ On the other half, cut out small circles or shapes in the center (these will be the tops).


Step 3: Bake & Assemble

1️⃣ Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
2️⃣ Let them cool, then spread jam on the whole cookie rounds.
3️⃣ Place the cut-out tops over the jam-covered bottoms and gently press.
4️⃣ Dust with powdered sugar for a traditional look.
