🐖✨ Weeknight Delight: Hungarian Pork Paprikash 🇭🇺
Hearty. Comforting. So flavorful, it’ll taste like Grandma just hugged your soul. 🤗 This Hungarian Pork Paprikash is the kind of dish that turns a plain ol’ weeknight into something cozy and special—without keeping you in the kitchen all night.
🌶️ What is Paprikash?
Paprikás (as they call it in Hungary) is a traditional dish made with meat simmered in a rich, creamy paprika sauce. The color is vibrant, the flavors deep and comforting, and the best part? It’s ridiculously easy to pull together! 💯
🧄🧅 Ingredients:
- 1.5 lbs pork shoulder or boneless pork chops, cut into chunks
- 2 tbsp oil or lard
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika (a MUST!)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 tbsp flour (for thickening)
- Optional: pinch of hot paprika or chili flakes for a spicy kick 🌶️
👩🍳 Instructions:
- Sear the pork: Heat oil in a deep skillet or Dutch oven. Brown the pork chunks until golden on all sides. Set aside.
- Sauté onions: In the same pot, sauté onions until soft and golden. Add garlic and cook another minute.
- Add paprika: Turn off the heat (so it doesn’t burn) and stir in the sweet paprika. The aroma is unreal right here. 😍
- Simmer: Return pork to the pot. Add salt, pepper, and broth. Cover and simmer on low heat for 45–60 minutes, until meat is fork-tender.
- Creamy finish: In a small bowl, mix sour cream with flour, then stir into the stew. Cook a few more minutes until thick and luscious.
