Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Meatballs
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, Parmesan, parsley, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Shape the mixture into small meatballs (about 1-inch in diameter).
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and brown the meatballs on all sides. They do not need to cook through fully. Set aside.
Step 2: Cook the Pasta
- Boil the pasta in salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Step 3: Make the Sauce
- In the same skillet used for the meatballs, melt 2 tablespoons of butter.
- Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute to create a roux.
- Gradually whisk in the broth and cream, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
- Add garlic powder, Italian seasoning, Parmesan cheese, and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 5 minutes, or until the sauce thickens.
Step 4: Assemble the Casserole
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta with half of the sauce.
- Pour the pasta into a greased baking dish. Top with the browned meatballs.
- Pour the remaining sauce evenly over the meatballs and pasta.
Step 5: Bake
- Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the meatballs are fully cooked and the sauce is bubbling.
Step 6: Garnish and Serve
- Garnish with fresh parsley and extra Parmesan cheese, if desired.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
Tips
- Substitute beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
- Add sautéed mushrooms or spinach to the sauce for extra flavor and nutrition.
