Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Crunch Layer
- Line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup (or honey) together. Stir until the mixture begins to bubble and thickens slightly (about 3 minutes).
- Remove from heat and stir in the crispy rice cereal and crushed pretzels until evenly coated.
- Press the mixture firmly into the prepared pan to create an even base layer. Chill in the fridge for 15 minutes.
Step 2: Make the Caramel Layer
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the caramels and heavy cream. Heat in 20-second intervals, stirring each time, until smooth and melted.
- Pour the caramel over the chilled crunch layer, spreading evenly with a spatula. Chill again for 10 minutes.
Step 3: Add the Chocolate Layer
- Melt the chocolate chips with the coconut oil in the microwave or over a double boiler, stirring until smooth.
- Pour the chocolate over the caramel layer, spreading evenly.
- Sprinkle with sea salt flakes, nuts, or toffee bits if desired.
Step 4: Set and Slice
- Chill the bars in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or until completely set.
- Use the parchment overhang to lift the bars out of the pan. Slice into squares or rectangles using a sharp knife.
Tips and Variations
- Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or refrigerate for longer freshness.
- Flavor Boost: Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the crunch layer for extra depth.
- Extra Crunch: Substitute crushed graham crackers or chopped nuts for the pretzels.
These bars are sweet, crunchy, and utterly irresistible! Perfect for any occasion. Enjoy! 😍
