Creamy Chicken with Cheese Sauce and Turkey Bacon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken:
    • Season the chicken breasts with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
    • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the chicken for 5–7 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature of 165°F/74°C). Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Make the Cheese Sauce:
    • In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute, whisking constantly.
    • Slowly add the milk while whisking to prevent lumps. Continue whisking until the sauce thickens (about 3–4 minutes).
    • Lower the heat and stir in the cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, and Dijon mustard (if using). Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Assemble the Dish:
    • Place the cooked chicken breasts back into the skillet, spooning the cheese sauce over the top.
    • Sprinkle the crumbled turkey bacon over the chicken and sauce.
  4. Serve:
    • Garnish with sliced green onions if desired. Serve warm with your choice of side dishes, such as steamed vegetables, mashed potatoes, or rice.

Tips:

  • Vegetable Boost: Add cooked broccoli or sautéed spinach to the skillet before adding the chicken for a one-pan meal.
  • Make Ahead: The cheese sauce can be prepared a day in advance and reheated gently.
