Hungarian Plum Dumplings (Szilvás Gombóc) 🇭🇺

Step 2: Make the Dough 🍞

1️⃣ In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, flour, egg, salt, and melted butter.
2️⃣ Knead gently until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms. (Don’t overwork it!)
3️⃣ Lightly flour a surface and roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch (6mm) thick.

Step 3: Prepare the Plum Filling 🍑

1️⃣ In a small bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon.
2️⃣ If using whole plums, cut a small slit and remove the seed.
3️⃣ Fill the center of each plum with about 1/2 teaspoon of the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

Step 4: Assemble the Dumplings 🎭

1️⃣ Cut the dough into squares (about 3×3 inches or 7×7 cm).
2️⃣ Place a plum (or half a plum) in the center of each square.
3️⃣ Wrap the dough around the plum, sealing the edges well to form a round dumpling.
4️⃣ Lightly flour your hands and roll the dumpling between your palms to smooth it out.

Step 5: Cook the Dumplings 🍲

1️⃣ Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
2️⃣ Carefully drop the dumplings into the water.
3️⃣ Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring gently so they don’t stick.
4️⃣ When they float to the top, cook for another 2 minutes, then remove them with a slotted spoon.

Step 6: Prepare the Buttery Breadcrumb Coating 🧈🥖

1️⃣ Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a pan over medium heat.
2️⃣ Add the breadcrumbs and toast until golden brown (about 3-5 minutes), stirring often.
3️⃣ Stir in sugar and cinnamon for extra flavor.

Step 7: Coat & Serve 🍽️

1️⃣ Roll the hot dumplings in the buttery breadcrumb mixture until fully coated.
2️⃣ Place them on a serving plate and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
3️⃣ Serve warm with a dollop of sour cream and a dusting of extra cinnamon if desired.

Enjoy! 😍🍑
