Meat and Potato Casserole Recipe

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the meat layer:
    • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
    • Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet, and sauté until the onion is translucent.
    • Stir in the salt, pepper, paprika, and thyme.
    • Add the tomato paste and broth. Simmer for about 5 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.
    • Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. Prepare the potato layer:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • In a bowl, toss the sliced potatoes with heavy cream, melted butter, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated.
  3. Assemble the casserole:
    • Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread the cooked meat mixture evenly in the bottom of the dish.
    • Layer the seasoned potato slices over the meat, slightly overlapping them.
  4. Bake the casserole:
    • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes.
    • Remove the foil, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top, and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  5. Serve:
    • Let the casserole cool for about 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Pro Tip: You can add veggies like peas, carrots, or corn to the meat layer for extra flavor and nutrition
