Pogácsa

👨‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Dough

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, mix the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the soft butter, egg, sour cream, and activated yeast mixture.
  3. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic (about 10 minutes). If the dough is sticky, add a little more flour.
  4. Cover the dough with a towel and let it rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

2️⃣ Shape the Pogácsa

  1. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about ½ inch (1.5 cm) thickness.
  2. Use a knife or a round cookie cutter to cut out small circles or squares.
  3. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Brush the tops with the egg yolk and sprinkle with grated cheese.

3️⃣ Bake the Pogácsa

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffy.

4️⃣ Serve & Enjoy!

  • Serve warm with butter, sour cream, or even a cup of tea or wine.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

📌 Variations & Tips:

✔️ Add bacon bits or diced ham for extra flavor.
✔️ Use sheep’s cheese (like feta) for a traditional Hungarian taste.
